I’ve never been the Smiling Buddha before. It’s a nice place. Very small, very narrow. I got paid three dollars to get a beer (I gave the bartender $10, he gave me back $13 and a beer).
I got to the venue midway through Ossuaries’ opening set. They weren’t too bad. They reminded me of Marduk, a lot. There’s nothing wrong with that. Their lighting was super kvlt. All it was was lighting from behind them and bellows of smoke. For the first twenty minutes I watched them I thought their guitarist was playing a left handed guitar. It turned out he had his back to the crowd. I really wish I'd have gotten a picture.
The next band Sortilegia was the only band I’d heard of at this show. They played a very hypnotic set of trancing black metal. I saw them last summer but they were much better tonight. I’m not sure what it was. But I really enjoyed them.
Gevurah was the last band of the night. I’ve heard the name somewhere but I don’t remember where. Their start underwhelmed me a bit. I think if the vocals were more guttural I’d have enjoyed them A LOT more. They might have been one of the best bands I’ve seen all year if that was the case. As it was though once they kicked into high gear I enjoyed them much more. They’d won me over by the end of their set.
Overall it was a very kvlt show (as you can tell from my pictures). All three bands were good. I had a good time.
