What a goddamn fun show! Long as hell, think it was about 4 hours (9:15-1:15), but worth just about every second. So many new faces that I haven't seen yet, or seen much of, and they all made for a hell of a night. This was also my anniversary of going to 321 Battle since the first show I went to of theirs was last years Battlemania.
I got to the venue at about 8:50 (later than I though thanks to my friend being asleep when I went to pick him up, leaving me waiting in his driveway for 15 mintues only for me to just say fuck it and leave), doors had already opened about 20 minutes earlier, but the line was still stretching around the block (yes, this small local promotion is that big here). They had started to turn people away due to the capacity being reached, but I was smart and bought reserved seats and was able to skip the line and go right in. Anyway, enough backstory, here are the matches.
*SIDE NOTE: They record every show and upload it online, so if you guys are interested in this I could post a link once its uploaded*Six-Pack Challenge
Weekend Warrior vs Kenny K vs Justex Citing vs Sonico vs BatBoy vs "Uncle Muscles" Allan JepsenThis match was an INSANELY hot way to kick off the show. Like... wtf, this match was far too good to be the opener. Kenny K is new to the Seattle scene, but he definitely stole the show for me. Very agile and flippy at times, but in a very relaxed fashion. There were a ton of insane spots in this match, and even had Sonico climb up one of the pillars and "stage dive" off onto his opponents. Weekend Warrior picked up the W after nailing a few Matanza/Cobb style standing Shooting Star Presses.
Kaden Talbain vs Air AdonisI had no idea who either of these guys was, and WOW they were good. Air Adonis was playing a Trump Supporter role, which here in Seattle got a TON of heat (sorry don't ban me for politics...), while Talbain was just... just a guy, but a really good guy. Air Adonis blew me away. Dude was in pretty good shape, but he could fly and flip with ease. Really great match from two virtually unknown guys here in Seattle.
"Gentleman Brawler" Eric Right vs Rook KellyEric Right plays a mix between a Jack Gallagher character mixed with what The Vaudevillians should be doing. He used to have a twirly mustache and very 1940's hair, but he seemed to have shaved both off and he just looks like your average wrestler. Rook Kelly is just a douche that everyone hates
. Anyway, it was hard to fully get invested in this because I feel Eric Right's former appearance was what really added to his character, but he still did the mannerisms and even at one point got out his special "Tonic" that made him strong. Another fun part of this match was when the commentators (who you can hear over the PA) randomly turned into an old time-y style of calling the match (See: Southpaw Wrestling), so fun.
Big Cat Scott Henson vs Rickey Shane Page vs Daniel MakabeThis was the first half main event, and goddamn.... it was good. Rickey Shane Page is the CZW Tournament of Death 2016 winner, while the other two are some of our "bigger" local guys. I wasn't sure about Rickey Shane Page at first, but he is entertaining as hell. He mimic'd a few wrestlers (Matt Hardy, which got a Delete chant, and some others) and really got himself over with the crowd #. Near the end of the match we saw a table of steel chairs built in the ring, only to have Makabe do a reverse hurricanrana on E.S.P.... it was insane. I'll post a video of that tomorrow when I get it uploaded. Everyone respected each other in the end and intermission hit.
# Side Note: The crowds here are not usually hardcore wrestling fans and just like to go to the shows to have fun and act stupid.Tag Title #1 Contender Battle RoyalThe first match back from intermission was pretty rad, but went FAR too long, IMO. It was hard to get fully invested in it due to how awesome the first half of the show was and how much of a cluster fuck this match was. I won't go into too much because far too much happened to recall... but Otis the Gimp and Milo the Clown Killer kept trying to chop each other in the corner, but since they both love pain they wouldn't do it to the other and would ask them to chop.... yeah never mind the wrestling here is weird (awesome) and the only way to understand is to attend or watch
. In the end, the Legion of Gloom won, queuing the tag champs, Mr. Fitness (of Braun Strowman jobber fame) and Jimmy Flame, to run out and attack them... then leading to....
321 Battle Tag Team Championship
The Legion of Gloom vs Fitness and FlameThis was a fun match, but definitely a "LOG got beat up hardcore in the battle royal now have to fight this, how can they win!?" type of match. But they won! Which probably got one of the biggest pops of the night. I remember seeing one of the dudes working as a ring crew member at past shows, so its awesome to see him in the ring and getting his due... plus hes one of the best we have here so even better.
321 Battle Seattle Underground Championship
Herman Nerdstrom vs Sage vs CubbyThere is a long story behind this that I won't get into too deep, but Cubby used to be a "Young Boy" for Sage's faction, the Hell Fire Club (CFH backwards, and all their merch is in the Pantera font) and finally escaped them, so then he got put in this match. I have seen Sage quite a bit, but he was in top form tonight and really a standout star (MMA background). Herman Nerdstrom is just a fun character, who is a nerd, and has a lot of video game/nerd themed movies and catchphrases. Anyways, this was a solid match, nothing too amazing, but fun nonetheless.
Eddie Van Glam & Joey Ryan vs Hell Fire Club (Sarian & Steve West)I GOT JOEY RYAN'S BLOWPOP!!!! ....and so did everyone else. Match started out with Joey Ryan doing his "WHO WANTS MY BLOW POP!?" leading to Steve West taking it and throwing it into the crowd.... so Joey Ryan said he had a backup plan, "Everyone look under your chairs!"... they taped Blow Pops under every single chair in the building
. This match was really fun and total comedy spot fest. At one point.... and this is going to sound really weird.... HFC were trying to suck the cock power out of Joey Ryan (they stole Eddie Van Glam's butt powers at one of the last shows), but Joey called for a timeout, leading to everyone "pausing" in the ring, while he turned the power sucking machines around onto the Hell Fire Club, leading to him doing the YouPorn Plex and EVG doing a butt flip....thing.... Just watch it and you'll understand
. Fun match, and a few "This is wrestling" chants going on when there was weird stuff going on.
321 Battle Solid Steel Championship
Cole Crazy vs B-BoyFormer CZW, PWG, Lucha Underground star B-Boy has practically become a regular in 321 Battle. Him and Cole Crazy had a "respect feud" going on, but they were tied in the wins and losses, leading to this title match... and wow, what a goddamn match. Went for a good 30+ minutes and was full of stiff shots, the loudest gunfire chops ever, and some insane hardcore action. I was never a huge fan of B-Boy, but after seeing this.... WOW, he is damn good. So many close finishes and near falls, but in the end Cole Crazy retained the belt, and B-Boy had a ton of tears rolling down his cheeks.
So that was that. For those of you confused at some of the things I mentioned... like powers being taken away... 321 Battle is just a fun show that doesn't take itself too seriously. There are times where people work great match, but overall its a more "theatrical" promotion with tons of off the wall gimmicks and things to make people feel really uncomfortable. I'll post some vids as they get posted online for those interested.
