Ring of Honor/New Japan Pro Wrestling "War of the Worlds 2017"
May 12th, 2017
From the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, New York
Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Colt Cabana, Kevin Kelly
Silas Young w/the Beer City Bruiser vs. Bobby Fish vs. Kushida vs. Dalton Castle w/the Boys
This was a good solid opener with everyone doing their thing fine. I was sad to see that Silas didn’t win but he didn’t take the pin either.
Winner: Dalton Castle
Frankie Kazarian vs. Hangman Page
This match had a lot of heat as it started and I was surprised how much I was enjoying it. The spitting segment was pretty gross. Like I said I was really enjoying it then the finish came WAY TOO EARLY. It’s pretty obvious that they’ll have another match at Best in the World next month and hopefully they can bring the same intensity into a much longer match.
Winner: Hangman Page
Los Ingobernables de Japon (EVIL and Sanada) vs. Search and Destroy vs. War Machine
This match was pretty good. I was really low on this pairing of Los Ingobernables de Japon when I saw them live last weekend and they were in a three team match where they did jack shit. They did a lot more in this match and while they didn’t do anything to blow me away I at least didn’t leave this match saying “they suck”.
Winners: War Machine
Jay White vs. Will Ospreay
I’ve been very critical of Ospreay and his overly choreographed shit last year with Ricochet. And Jay White has done less than nothing for me the times I saw him (which is more than a few). So I can’t believe I’m going to say this but I LOVED THIS MATCH. Ospreay wasn’t quite as mechanical and White was playing somewhat of a heel character, which I think suits him much better. These two beat the high, holy crap out of each other with some really stiff looking spots and really, REALLY impressed me. MATCH OV DA YEAR ov da week.
Winner: Will Ospreay
After the match Punishment Martinez came out and beat on both of them.
No Disqualifications match for the Ring of Honor Six Man Tag Team Championships
Chaos vs. the Briscoes & Bully Ray (champions)
Before the match started Bully Ray got on the microphone and made it a no disqualifications match. It was a fun brawl after that. I’ve seen better and brutaller but feeding off the electricity of the previous match this match was very good. Mark took most of the beating on his teams end. I guess Trent Beretta got it the worst of the Chaos guys.
Winners: the Briscoes & Bully Ray
For the Ring of Honor World Television Championship
Matt Sydal vs. Marty Scurll (champion)
After the previous two matches I needed a break so I went to get something to eat for the first few minutes of this one. It was still a really good match. Scurll is…okay. I’m not getting much out of him just yet. But I see potential.
Winner: Marty Scurll
For the Ring of Honor World Tag Team Championships
Los Ingobernables de Japon (Tetsuya Naito and Bushi) vs. the Young Bucks (champions)
This was a decent match as well. Again, the Los Ingobernables de Japon guys in this match didn’t impress me much last weekend either but they put on a much better showing tonight. I guess jet lag got a lot of the NJPW guys last weekend. So yeah, this was a decent match.
Winners: the Young Bucks
Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Adam Cole
This match was okay. The air of it being potentially Coles match surrounded it. I can’t say I’ll really miss him so much as I think it’s unfortunate that they don’t have someone to fill the hole he’ll leave (if he does leave).
Winner: Hiroshi Tanahashi
After the match the Young Bucks came out and teased a Superkick on Cole, but then they embraced. The lights went out and Kenny Omega appeared on the screen. He fired Cole from the Bullet Club and introduced Marty Scurll as their newest member. The lights came back on and Scurll was in the ring. The Bucks Superkicked Cole and Scurll hit him with his umbrella, or something. So yeah, Cole’s done.
For the Ring of Honor World Heavyweight Championship
Cody vs. Jay Lethal vs. Christopher Daniels (champion)
This was an okay match. It felt a little rushed. This pay per view was about a lot more things than the Ring of Honor championship so I think it was just there to be there. In a way I wanted to see Cody win because that’s the way I see it making the most sense going forward. But at the same time even if Daniels isn’t getting the best reactions as champion I didn’t want his reign to end after only a couple of months. So I was glad he won.
Winner: Christopher Daniels

Overall a very good pay per view. I recommend watching it just for the Jay White verses Will Ospreay match. I can’t believe I just praised a Jay White match but I think it was just THAT GOOD. The rest of the card was solid and entertaining. And it had the last Adam Cole match you’re going to see run more than five minutes for quite some time. I've heard that this may have been Bobby Fish's last match in Ring of Honor as well.
Was it me or was Mauro Rinaldo sitting in the front row?
