Well this is lacking in setlists so I'm just gonna try to do some throwback sets to coincide with an anniversary of when I saw the show.
I'm a little bit late (2 days) but I'm going to review Dimmu Borgir/Unearth/Devildriver/Kataklysm from the Beaumont Club in KC on 5/22/07. So I'd only being going to shows semi frequently for about 5 years before this. It can be laughed at now but DB was one of the first "Extreme" metal bands I saw live. Obviously we know what's come of them now but I'm still partial to them for that reason.
For such a bill and knowing the KC areas love of butt rock this still probably drew between 300-400 people.
Kataklysm was the opener. I was pretty bummed because I think I only caught like the last 2 songs of theirs. Thanks to Headbangers Ball I was super psyched to see As I Slither. Not much I remember only seeing 2 songs. I'd see them again in a couple years.
Like Angels Weeping (The Dark)
Where the Enemy Sleeps...
Crippled & Broken
The Resurrected
Let Them Burn
As I Slither
In Shadows & Dust
Next up was Devildriver and I think I moved down to the floor for them, because I was 22 and probably thought I was tough. DD had only been around for like 3-4 years and 2 albums by this tour. Portions of the first 2 albums aren't terrible (to me atleast). I really enjoyed DD on this tour. Lots of circle pits. 8 songs is really about the ideal amount of songs to see DD. Pretty much everything they played were all songs I liked. Really awesome, energetic set from DD.
End of the Line
Hold Back the Day
Nothing's Wrong?
Not All Who Wander Are Lost
The Mountain
I Could Care Less
Clouds Over California
Meet the Wretched
Unearth was direct support which I still found a little odd. Core isn't something you'd normally associate with DB. But it still worked. Unearth feels like one of those forgotten bands from that early/mid 00's. They never really got huge but they never got less popular, they just stuck around. I've since grown out of all the breakdowns but something about Unearth is so damn catchy and it just seems to work. As a headliner my gripe was always their set length. As direct support they play pretty close to a full set anyways. And everything they played absolutely killed. Ton of pits, ton of energy by the band. Odd pairing supporting for DB but I still had a great time watching them. BREAKDOWNS!!!
This Glorious Nightmare
The Great Dividers
Endless
Giles
Sanctity of Brothers
This Lying World
Zombie Autopilot
Black Hearts Now Reign
Finally time for DB. I'm super grateful to see them when I did. What attracted me to DB were the clean vocals of ICS Vortex. With everything else that goes on in their songs he had such a fantastic voice. That's the biggest thing I'd kill for DB to get back. Set opened hot with Progenies and into Vredysbyrd. Middle section kinda drug but picked up towards the end. I would've preferred maybe 1 more from In Sorte Diaboli which I still thought was a really good album. Little bummed at the length, 11 seems a little thin. But overall a wonderful show.
Progenies of the Great Apocalypse
Vredesbyrd
Cataclysm Children
Kings of the Carnival Creation
Sorgens Kammer - Del II
IndoctriNatioI n
A Succubus in Rapture
The Serpentine Offering
The Chosen Legacy
Spellbound (By the Devil)
Mourning Palace
I can't wait to see the amount of people who will read the title and think it's for 2017 until the read the year. I do that all the time. Hopefully others will throw out an old school set that maybe you never put up at the old place.
