Just got home from Defy's third show, Swerve City, in Seattle, WA at the Washington Hall. Really fun show from beginning to end. The venue was packed and HOT, luckily it cooled down after intermission, that was getting insane.
Moose vs Mike Santiago
- The show started off with Moose taking on local guy, Mike Santiago. Mike has been a total heel since the first show, and continued to be a dick here. Moose was insanely over with the crowd with everyone doing the "Moose".... thing.... when he made his entrance. The match was solid overall, especially given Moose has only been wrestling for around 3 years. And he is HUGE. Walked by him when leaving and DAMN.
The Cunninghams vs Los Sexi-Mexis
- Big Jack and Carl "The Catch" made up the Cunninghams, and they were great! Big Jack is... well... big. He had a Nia Jax type body suit, but he was super talented. He took on Jeff Cobb at Defy 1, and I was wondering when he'd be back. Los Sexi-Mexi's have been insanely over with the crowd in Seattle, and continued to show why people love them. This match was hot from the start when The Cunninghams jumped Los Sexi-Mexi's during their entrance. Some great tag team maneuvers with the Cunninghams and they picked up the win, defeating the undefeated Sexi-Mexi's.
CZW World Championship
Davey Richards vs Lio Rush (c)
- First half main event... and holy crap! One of the best matches I've seen in person ever. Lio Rush vs Shane Strickland from the last show was insanely good, but this may have been a butt hair better. Both guys put on their "A" performances and got the crowd hot. Lio Rush was using his new CZW "dark" gimmick, and his entrance was so awesome to see in person. I really was not expecting a title change, especially for a belt belonging to CZW and Defy still being a new promotion (they have a working relationship now).... but Davey Richards beat Lio Rush by submission to gain the belt!
After the match Richards cut a promo saying that if CZW wants their title back, then they are going to have to come to Seattle to get it. Very awesome, and very unexpected!
Joey Ryan vs Mr. Fitness
- The second half kicked off with a fun match between Joey Ryan and local "favorite" (who was a Braun Strowman jobber) Mr. Fitness. Fitness came out with another "favorite", "Simply the Best" Steve West. Huge "Fuck you Fitness - Steve West sucks!" chant. Joey came out and brought out local fan favorite Eddie Van Glam to be in his corner. Joey hit his spots, and tried his hardest (pun intended) to get Fitness to touch his dick. There was even a "Just the tip" chant. In the end he finally got Fitness to touch it and defeated him while Eddie Van Glam played guitar on Steve West's arm.
Taya vs Christina von Eerie
- I will be honest, I have not been impressed with a lot of the Taya matches I've seen.... but this was actually REALLY good. So cool to see Von Eerie in person too. She has REALLY slimmed down a lot. At one point Taya threw Von Eerie off the top rope and it looked like Von Eerie BARELY made the complete flip and almost landed on her head. So brutal. Not too much to say other then it was a really solid match, and Taya impressed me A LOT.
Shane Strickland vs John Morrison
- The main event put the "Swerve City" against "Slam Town", Kill Shot against Johnny Mundo. This was a really great match, and brought out some viciousness from Strickland that I have never seen. Morrison worked hardcore heel in this and cut the most dickish promo prior to the match. A lot of really fun spots and some brutal moves that had me thinking these guys got legit injured. In the end, Taya tried to interfere, but ate a superkick (on accident) from Strickland. Strickland pulled out a submission hold I've never seen before and made the face of Lucha Underground tap!
After the match Strickland's music hit and him and Taya shared dance moves, then Morrison hit his moves, which lead to Shane calling over his girlfriend to "serve" those two. They had a little dance off and then all hugged and shook hands.
Great night overall with another MOTYC with Lio Rush. I saw some guys next to me recording the entire match so hopefully I'll be able to post it here before the official recording goes up in a few weeks.
