Ring of Honor/NJPW "War of the Worlds 2015 Night 1"
May 12th, 2015
From the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Commentators: Kevin Kelly and Steve Corino
Adam Cole comes out to the ring and welcomes everyone to the show and informs us that he won't be returning to the ring tomorrow night…HES RETURNING TO THE RING TONIGHT TO FACE AJ STYLES!...MOTHERFUCKER!!!!
Delirious vs. Gedo
This match wasn’t very good at all. There was some weak-ass, botchy shit. I don't get to see much Delirious but I see enough. One match a year is fine with me.
Winner: Gedo
Kushida vs. Roderick Strong
Aside from booking Shelley Martinez you couldn't have gotten much worse than that last match but this was very, very good. I’ve yet to see Kushida in anything bad…I blame my falling asleep last night during Best in the World 2017 solely on Marty Scurll. The ending move was sick.
Winner: Roderick Strong
Watanabe vs. Jay Lethal w/Truth Martini and J. Diesel
This match was good when Watanabe was in control but when Jay took over it was really boring. Had it kept the Watanabe intensity and vibe it’d have been a banger.
Winner: Jay Lethal
After the match Jay Briscoe came out to the ring and stared Jay Lethal down. They were fighting at Best in the World a month after this for Briscoes Ring of Honor World Heavyweight Championship.
The Kingdom vs. the Young Bucks vs. the Addiction
This was just okay. Too much Kingdom in the ring, not enough Young Bucks. I was really thinking to myself during this match how many times I’ve seen the Addiction be the Young Bucks bitches and the best answer I could come up with was “a lot”.
Winners: the Young Bucks
Moose, Stokely Hathaway and Veda Scott come to the ring and plead their case for Moose being the number one contender to the Ring of Honor World Heavyweight Championship. There's a bit of tension between Moose/Stokely and Veda.
Michael Elgin vs. Tetsuya Naito
Wow, Naito playing face to the crowd threw me for a loop. Even more than Elgin playing the heel. Naito had the same dead, shapeless hair though. This was a decent match.
Winner: Tetsuya Naito
Afterwards Elgin is pretty pissed that he lost but adheres to the Code of Honor anyways. But it's Naito who hits the surprise attack on him.
reDRagon vs. Jushin Thunder Liger & Hiroshi Tanahashi
This was an okay match. I think it should've gone a bit longer but I don't know if Liger was able to go much longer at this point.
Winner: reDRagon
Adam Cole vs. AJ Styles
This was a really good match. Were it to have happened in Japan I'd have given it four and five-eighth stars but since it didn't I'm going to give it three bananas. Joking aside it was really good. These two will TEAR IT UP in the Andre the Giant pre-show battle royal at Wrestlemania 35. Joking aside it was the best match I've seen from Adam Cole. Those five minute masterpieces he'll be putting together with the Drifter on a Smarkdown special events undercard are gonna have some big shoes to fill. Should I stop? Okay. Fuck WWE. Now I'll stop.
Winner: AJ Styles
CHAOS w/Gedo vs. the Briscoes
Is it wrong that a couple of recent Okada matches (i.e. 2017) that some old geek gave an exuberant amount of stars to as a means to get himself over makes me not want to even see him? I mean he's a good wrestler but...I dunno...maybe I need to stop shaving my neck. This was a good match but I think the previous match drained everyone; myself included.
Winners: CHAOS
After the match Bobby Fish grabs Jay Briscoes Ring of Honor World Heavyweight championship and gets in the ring. I don't know if I have that DVD...but I know Fish never won.
____________________________________________________
This was a good enough a show. Nothing mind bottling but I’d still recommend you to watch it. The second match with Roderick Strong and Kushida and the match with AJ Styles and Adam Cole were tied for the best match of the night. Both are worth seeing to see.
