Just got home and so hyped still! Those last two matches were off the hook. I really wish I had gone to Night 1 on Thursday, but dammit, this night was probably just as good, I just really didn't want to (nor have the funds to) drive to Tacoma (its an hour plus drive, sooooo)
Here's a quick review of the show.
* Steve West d. Joey Ryan
- Really fun start to the show! Steve West only touched the tip of Joey Ryan's penis and had to get medical help, so an EMT came out and wrapped up his finger. Joey ryan put baby oil on the ring and both men slipped in it. At one point Steve West threw powder in Joey Ryan's face and then Joey Ryan did the dick flip on the ref. Steve West tried putting a chair around Joey's penis and went to the middle rope to break it, but NOPE. Steve West won with a backcracker.
* Angelina Love & Nicole Matthews d. Su Yung & Christina von Eerie
- Solid women's match, but nothing overwhelmingly crazy. Su Yung is becoming one of my favorites though, she has so much charisma and great in ring skill, wish she was able to do more in this match. Her and Von Eerie were not on the same page at all, Su ended up spitting red mist in Eerie's face and leaving her to get pinned by Angelina Love.
* King Khash d. Sonico by submission
- This match went WAY over my expectations. King Khash has gotten so good since Defy 1 when he fought Matt Cross, and Sonico is always fun (I think he's only 19?!?!?!) . Great action in this, and some of those submission holds that Khash locked onto Sonico looked PAINFUL. I swear Sonico was gonna get hurt bad when he went to senton Khash outside the ring and almost clothelined his neck across the barricade. Khash won with an awesome submission hold.
* Davey Boy Smith Jr. d. Mike Santiago
- I've never seen Smith Jr in person, but goddamn, that's a HUGE MAN! Mike Santiago isn't that tall to begin with, but Smith towered over him! Pretty solid match, nothing too crazy. I expected it to be a total squash with Davey Boy being the size he is, but glad they worked a good length match. Cool to see someone use a piledriver as a finisher!!!!!
* reDRagon d. Darby Allin & Matt Cross
- YES! This was such a treat for me to see reDRagon in person! This was supposed to be the Lucho Bros (Pentagon and Fenix), but they couldn't make it, so Darby Allin and Matt Cross got put together as a makeshift tag team, and really worked well. Redragon worked as very strong heels and the crowd was almost 100% behind Darby and Cross. Such great action in this, stiff strikes, interesting maneuvers into submissions, just an all around damn good tag match. Seeing reDRagon hit "Chasing the Dragon" in person makes it look SO MUCH MORE BROOTAL than it is.
* DEFY Championship Final: Davey Richards d. Shane Strickland by submission
- A lot happened at the start of this match, so here's a readers digest version. They worked an angle where Richards jumped Strickland at the show the night before and injured his leg. Richards came out first, then Strickland's music hit, but he didn't come out. Matt and Jim (the owners of DEFY) came out and said some stuff (inaudible to me being in the balcony), Jim came out with the belt and walked around showing it off. Strickland's music hit again and he slowly made his way to the ring. Davey ended up attacking him as he was posing, and the match was on. This match was hot fire from start to finish. Not a single moment that the crowd wasn't making noise (except when Shane was setting up Richards for a double foot stomp on the apron). The match ended with Richards putting Shane in a knee bar (I think) on Shane's bad leg, and then Shane passing out, crowning Davey Richards as the first DEFY Champion.
I honestly felt the finish to that match fell a bit flat, but I think that's only because I was SO LOOKING FORWARD to Shane winning and getting that huge babyface pop since DEFY has booked him as the "face that runs the place" since the first show, but I guess when it comes to booking and promoting, it's great to have a name like Davey Richards be the champ, especially with his heelish tactics.
Great show from beginning to end. The Tag Team and Main Event were by far my favorites, and the Joey Ryan match was just too awesome to not like!
