The Young Bucks “Superkick Party Part 1”
Chapter 1: “ROH Beginnings”
From ROH on HDNET on May 29th, 2009
The Young Bucks vs. Sal Rinauro & Brandon Day
This was a decent five-minute TV match. The only real point in its being included is to show the Bucks first match in Ring of Honor.
Winners: the Young Bucks
From ROH on HDNET on May 30th, 2009
The Young Bucks vs. Silas Young & Bobby Fish
This was a pretty good TV match. Better than the last one. The Bucks got dominated for most of it but pulled it off in the end because Silas Young win a match? As if.
Winners: the Young Bucks
From Contention on June 12th, 2009
The Young Bucks vs. Kevin Steen & el Generico
This was a really good, entertaining match. But that was pretty much because of Kevin Steen. It wasn't a jobber squash but the Bucks were pretty much fed to their opponents in this one, save a bit near the end.
Winners: Kevin Steen & el Generico
From Manhattan Mayhem III on June 13th, 2009
The Young Bucks vs. the All Night Express
This was a good, fast, even match that could've gone a bit longer in my opinion.
Winners: The Young Bucks
Chapter 2: “Getting Over”
From the Final Countdown Tour on September 19th, 2009
The Young Bucks vs. Dark City Fight Club
This match had me questioning who the Dark City Fight Club are and why this match kicked off a chapter entitled "Getting Over"? The Dark City Fight Club mauled the Bucks. But the Bucks had the crowd behind them and pulled it off; hence "getting over".
Winners: the Young Bucks
From the Final Countdown Tour on September 25th, 2009
The Young Bucks vs. "Up in Smoke" Cheech & Cloudy
This was a good match. I'm digging seeing all these forgotten teams. Cloudy of Up in Smoke was pretty good.
Winners: the Young Bucks
From Glory by Honor VIII on September 26th, 2009
The Young Bucks vs. the Briscoes
This was another good, even and rough match. The commentary and camera angles were pretty bad but after the first few moments it didn't matter.
Winners: the Young Bucks
Good show of honor between the teams after the match.
From Final Battle on December 19th, 2009
The Young Bucks vs. Kevin Steen & el Generico
Even though this match was more evenly match than their prior match I wasn't as entertained by it. The ending was really good though.
Winners: the Young Bucks
From ROH on HDNET on December 8th, 2010
To determine the number one contenders for the Ring of Honor World Tag Team Championships
The Young Bucks vs. the American Wolves w/Shane Hagadorn
This was really fucking good for a TV match, if ROH on HDNET was even a TV show? Seems to me like it was some Internet show.
Winners: the Young Bucks (new number one contenders for the Ring of Honor World Tag Team Championships)
For the Ring of Honor World Tag Team Championships from ROH on HDNET on January 9th, 2010
The Young Bucks vs. the Briscoes (champions)
This was another really good TV match. Nowhere near as good as the last match and not as good as the first match with the Briscoes. But if ROH on HDNET was a TV show or a free show on the internet it was better than the usual fare on Monday's or Tuesday's/Thursday's/Friday's. There was a fucking brutal Neckbreaker towards the end.
Winners: the Briscoes
Disc 2
Chapter 3 "New Generation"
[Note: this chapter takes place during the Young Bucks tenure in TNA when they were called “Generation Me” and went by "Max Buck" (Matt) and "Jeremy Buck" (Nick). The commentators jumped between calling them both and calling the team by both names.]
From Hate: Chapter 2 on July 23rd, 2010
Generation Me vs. the American Wolves
This match seemed very "off". There were a few blown spots and miscues that I couldn't look past. And calling the Bucks "Max" and "Jeremy" Buck was hard to get used to.
Winners: the American Wolves
From Salvation on July 24th, 2010
Generation Me vs. the Kings of Wrestling w/Shane Hagadorn and Sara Del Ray
When the Kings of Wrestling were in control of this match it was boring. It was almost a jobber squash. Once it evened out it was okay. But I wasn’t impressed at all. It was funny to see Cesaro with a slight Mohawk and Chris Hero not fat.
Winners: the Kings of Wrestling
From Best in the World on June 26th, 2011
Generation Me vs. Future Shock
This match was fucking awesome until the Bravado Brothers came out and interfered. I don’t know if it could’ve gone on for much longer though. It was a hyper speed match that must have been heavily choreographed but it wasn’t as stupid and fake looking as that Ricochet verses Will Ospreay match.
Winners: Generation Me via disqualification
Chapter 4: "RoH Homecoming"
Elimination Match from Death Before Dishonor IX on November 17th, 2011
The Young Bucks vs. Future Shock vs. the Bravado Brothers
This was a good match but the Bravado Brothers went out way to early. The whole thing could’ve gone on WAY longer. But, it was rooted in and was a continuation the last match.
Winners: the Young Bucks
Afterwards the Young Bucks refuse the code of honor
From the 10th Anniversary Show on March 4th, 2012
For the Ring of Honor World Tag Team Championships
The Young Bucks vs. the Briscoes (champions)
This match started out better than it ended up being. The Briscoes were in full-on rage mode at the start. The camera filter was really bad too.
Winners: the Briscoes
Chapter 5: "More Bang For Your Buck"
From All-Star Extravaganza V on August 3rd, 2013
Adrenaline Rush vs. the Young Bucks vs. C + C Wrestlefactory
This was a good, quick match. Caprice (as always) is the fucking man. He hit some awesome shit in this one.
Winners: Adrenaline Rush
From Manhattan Mayhem V on August 17th, 2013
The Young Bucks vs. Forever Hooligans
This was a good match that I swear I've seen before. The squeaky ring rope was very familiar. [EDIT: I have seen it before]
Winners: Forever Hooligans
From Final Battle on December 14th, 2013
Adrenaline Rush vs. the Young Bucks
This was a good little match.
Winners: the Young Bucks
From Raising the Bar: Night 1 on March 7th, 2014
The Young Bucks & Kevin Steen vs. the Briscoes & Michael Elgin
I really liked the camera angle on this one. It looked very "Indy" despite how recent it is. It was at a very small venue too. This was a good match but with how compact it was if it have gone outside and into the crowd it would have been nuts.
Winners: the Briscoes & Michael Elgin
From Raising the Bar: Night 2 on March 8th, 2014
For the Ring of Honor World Tag Team Championships
The Young Bucks vs. reDRagon (champions)
This was a decent match but by this point I think I've had enough of the Young Bucks. And I saw Kyle O'Reily in a couple matches against the Bucks an hour ago that were WAY better. The ending surprised me. I didn't think they held the titles before they beat the Addiction in late-2016. But it was a good note to end a DVD that saw the stars lose quite a bit on.
Winners: the Young Bucks (new Ring of Honor World Tag Team Champions)
____________________________________________________________
This wasn't a bad compilation to have at all. It's a good thing for detractors of the Young Bucks to watch, actually. It showed (especially on disc one) that before the Bucks became a wrestling meme they could work a really good match. Yeah, they've become an annoying joke now (to some, not me but I can see it) but I'd encourage any and all to watch this to be reminded of why people started caring about them in the first place.
Superkick Party Part 2 was released a week or two ago but I'm in no rush to get it. I have seen a lot of the matches and it covers a very short timeframe (from the end of this one until early-2016, so just a little over two years). I do remember the Philadelphia Street Fight from December 2015 was really fun but it was also from the first Ring of Honor Show I ever watched (it was a TV match) and I see that match through rose coloured glasses.
The Bullet Club stuff did come in towards the end of the DVD and I can’t believe how long it’s been going on for.
