Ring of Honor “Scramble Madness”
November 16th, 2002
From the Americal Civic Center in Wakefield, Massachusetts
Commentators: Chris Lovey and Jeff Gorman
The Prophecy (Christopher Daniels, Xavier, Simply Luscious and Samoa Joe) are in the house tonight but will not be defending any of their titles. Christopher Daniels vows to beat AJ Styles in the number one contenders match so Xavier will never have to defend his title again. Dunn and Marcos burst in and cut a promo...and get laughed at. Then Daniels orders Samoa Joe to kick their asses later tonight.
The Code of Honor is presented to the viewing audience out.
Jay Briscoe is in the ring with Amazing Red and he calls Mark Briscoe and whoever his partner is out for a “Dream Tag Team Partner” match.
Dream Partner Tag Team Match
Jay Briscoe & Amazing Red vs. Mark Briscoe & Christopher Daniels
This match was just okay. I'm starting to think I'm not a Christopher Daniels fan.
Winner: Mark
Joey Matthews and Special K are backstage all high.
Man verses Woman
Mace w/Allison Danger vs. Alexis Laree
This was fucking terrible.
Winner: Alexis Laree
Afterwards Allison Danger tried to kiss Alexis but she got a DDT instead.
Steve Corino is upset over the recent actions of Homicide and he's had enough of Ring of Honor, so he leaves.
Jeremy Lopez vs. Xavier w/Simply Luscious
This was actually a good match that would have came across better if there were two guys in it who had any heat behind them. It says a lot for Xavier as champion that this is where he appeared on the card.
Winner: Xavier
Tony Mamaluke & Matt Thompson vs. da Hit Squad
Matt Thompson...wow. Imagine Peter Steele if he weighed a hundred and thirty pounds. I felt bad for Tony Mamaluke here. He deserved better than carrying a guy who was in his fourth match (as per commentary) in what was basically a squash. He was so bad the crowd and even da Hit Squad wanted him in to see get tagged in so he could suffer.
Winner: da Hit Squad
Ten Man Tag Team Scramble Match
Special K w/Dixie can Divine Storm, SAT & Amazing Red w/Trinity
This was a pretty insane spotfest. Some parts were a little boring but the good parts and the last seven minutes made up for it.
Winners: SAT
The Ring Crew Express vs. Samoa Joe
This lasted all of a minute.
Winner: Samoa Joe
Street Fight
Paul London & Rudy Boy Gonzalez vs. Michael Shane & Bio-Hazard
This was a decent but very sloppy brawl with a very bad ref botch at the end. After that botch I was done with this match. it ended a couple of seconds later anyway.
Winners: Paul London & Rudy Boy Gonzalez
Carnage Crew vs. Alex Arion, Don Juan & Fast Eddie
So Fast Eddie was legally blind. I swear I've heard of him but maybe not, since I think the finishing move of this match may have killed him. This was okay. It was actual wrestling so it's probably the best “wrestling” match you’ll ever see from Tony DeVito.
Winners: Carnage Crew
Samoa Joe vs. Homicide
This was a really good stiff match that ended way too early. I could sit through twenty-five minutes of these two guys.
Winner: Homicide
For the number one contendership for the Ring of Honor championship
Christopher Daniels w/Simply Luscious vs. AJ Styles (current number one contender)
It's probably sacrilegious in some circles to "zone out" during an AJ Styles match...but I totally zoned out during this match.
Winner: AJ Styles
Afterwards the Prophecy rushes the ring and attacks AJ Styles. Jay Briscoe tries to make the save but is unsuccessful. SAT and Amazing Red came out and saved the day.
Thirty-Minute Iron Man Match
American Dragon vs. Doug Williams
Much like the crowd that night I was pretty much done by this point. There were still a couple of elitists clapping for armbars and shit but if you look; some bored faces, some empty seats and some people leaving.
Winner: American Dragon (1-0)
Afterwards American Dragon compliments Doug Williams on their match. But he wants to face him one more time.
Doug Williams is pretty upset that he couldn't win tonight but he wants a best two out of three falls match against American Dragon.
The Prophecy is pretty happy with their night but they argue over Steve Corino and Samoa Joe not helping them in the fight with AJ Styles, Jay Briscoe and SAT. They leave with bad intentions in mind.
AJ Styles and Alexis Laree are getting ready to leave when the Prophecy attack them.
An ad for some RF Shoot videos closes things.
__________________________________________________________
This show really wasn’t too good. Maybe I’ve watched too much wrestling this weekend (this was my third old Ring of Honor show in three nights) but by the end I was fully lucid but not paying attention. Samoa Joe verses Homicide and the Tag Team Scramble Match are worth seeing but the rest is nothing to seek out.
The camera work was at least a bit better at this show. There was a “hard camera”. But it was zoomed in a little close and there were a lot of quick pans. That made things hard to watch. Especially the Scramble Match.
The crowd was doing the "TWO" shit during this show and I really hoped I was watching a wrestling show from before those days. That's my "what". I fucking hate it when the crowd does that. The only thing I hate more is when they chant one number ahead of the ref when he’s counting people out. Seriously, shut the fuck up. Every. Fucking. One of you.
