As I've stated multiple times, old PWG can be VERY hit or miss, and mainly it'll be a HUGE miss. From horrible commentary, bad production, and just bland in ring action, they were not the juggernaut that they are now a days. HOWEVER, this may have been one of the best old school PWG shows that I have seen in a very long time. The commentary was miles better than the last show I watched though, and only had to turn it off once in a while when someone would be cutting a promo in the ring and for some reason Excalibur and Disco Machine would be talking over them. They would go off and talk about random stuff that would completely take away from the match, but it wasn't nearly as bad as the last show I watched where it was ONLY Disco Machine and he would talk about everything BUT the in ring action.
- The show started out with Frankie Kazarian in the ring with Chris Bosh and Scott Lost. They were talking about stuff and things, and Scott Lost referred to a group of fans as "fags" once again.... jesus fucking christ. This would NOT pass now a days....
Six Man Tag Team Match
Charles Mercury, Funky Billy Kim & Ronin vs. Los Rojo Locos (Shane Ballard & Shannon Ballard) & Supa Badd
- This was a pretty bad match. I was only familiar with Ronin, but that didn't make up for how much this match sucked. Supa Badd was trying to be The Goon (he was dressed in a hockey jersey) and looked like he was just starting out... his name reflected his in ring skills. I think Ronin's team won, but I could be wrong.
Singles Match
Hook Bomberry vs. Top Gun Talwar
- For what I've seen of these two in the past I wasn't expecting much, just two generic jobbers, but this wasn't a horrible match... it wasn't good either, but it didn't suck. This was the shortest match on the card too, so that probably made it feel a lot better to me.
Singles Match
Puma vs. UK Kid
- Puma is who TJ Perkins was before being TJP. He was a luchador in a mask. I have no idea who UK Kid was, but he came out cutting a promo and it was just annoying. The match was ok, second shortest match on the card. Nothing stood out though.
PWG Tag Team Title #1 Contendership Match
S.B.S. (Disco Machine & Excalibur) vs. The Aerial Express (Quicksilver & Scorpio Sky) (w/Dino Winwood)
- To be completely honest I was on my computer listening to this in the background. Disco Machine and Excalibur were on commentary and calling this match in first person, which was so cringy. The few times I looked up it seemed ok, and I saw a cool spot from Quicksilver, but that was about it.
Singles Match
Bobby Quance vs. Christopher Daniels
- This is where the show started to pick up. I had no idea who Bobby Quance was, but he was really good. Chris Daniels was Chris Daniels.... dude has never changed in his entire career. This match was really damn good. There was a 20 minute time limit and Quance got the win via roll-up at 19:56. I guess Quance had joined the Navy and this was his last match in PWG (although he had one more against Joey Ryan 5 years later) and he seems to be retired now... which is a bummer because he looked great.
Singles Match
Joey Ryan vs. Samoa Joe
- It's weird seeing a match where Joey Ryan isn't trying to get his opponent to grab is dick... it's even weirder seeing him in a really good wrestling match against the likes of Samoa Joe. This match was really solid and Joe looked awesome, as well as Joey. Super Dragon came out at the end and ran interference causing Joe to pick up the W. But yeah, really weird how great of a WRESTLING MATCH this was. There was also a weird delay between the commentary and the match, so the ref would count "1-2..." and then 5 seconds later the commentators would count it. This kind of felt like a "Japanese style match" that all the wrestling nerds talk about.
Non Title Match
Frankie Kazarian (w/Babi Slymm) vs. Tony Stradlin
- WTF this match was hella good and this Tony Stradlin guys was phenomenal!!! I keep confusing Bobby Quance with Stradlin, but I'm pretty sure it was Stradlin that made me think "Jesus, this guy is so far ahead of his time!" Kazarian was ok in this, but Stradlin was the obvious stand out. I did some investigating after the show and saw that Stardlin was actually in WWE's "Deep South Wrestling" developmental territory in the mid-2000s where he was a tag champ and had matches with the likes of MVP and Johnny Curtis/Fandango (has Fandango really been in WWE THAT LONG!?). But yes, this match was great and makes me want to check out early PWG even more.
PWG Tag Team Title Match
Arrogance (Chris Bosh & Scott Lost) (c) vs. B-Boy & Super Dragon
- Ya know, this match was ok. It wasn't as long as the other tag team main event I saw on the last show (this was 25, that one was about 45) and kept my attention so much better. I have never really cared for the team of Bosh/Lost, but they had some REALLY GOOD double team moves in this. B-Boy and Super Dragon were a cool match up, but didn't seem to have the same chemistry of Arrogance. The match finished with Joey Ryan coming out and distracting Super Dragon and then Arrogance got the win with the Clothesline/Backbreaker into Sharpshooter combo making Dragon tap out.
All in all, this was an enjoyable show. There was a lot of fluff, but not nearly as unbearable as previous PWG shows I've seen... plus it was only $3!
