Ring of Honor "Global Wars: Buffalo"
October 12th, 2017
From the Buffalo Riverworks in Buffalo, New York
Commentators: Ian Riccaboni and Colt Cabana
T-shirt worn: the Briscoes "Since Day One"
Sumie Sakai vs. Deonna Purrazzo
This was an okay match. After seeing Ring of Honor four previous times in the last year this was the first time I've seen Women of Honor mainstay Sumie Sakai. She wasn't even supposed to be in this match; Stella Gray was advertised as Dianna’s opponent but cancelled due to injury. I can tell that Sumie Sakai is light-years ahead of Deonna Purrazzo and was doing her darnedest to carry her.
Winner: Deonna Purrazzo
The Dawgs vs. Coast 2 Coast
This was a comedy match and nothing more. But at least Will Ferrara is doing something. Rhett Titus? Well he's done better but this role is fine for him.
Winners: the Dawgs
Hangman Page vs. Kushida
This was a pretty good match. I've really become a fan of Hangman Pages in the last few months. He gives his all in his matches.
Winner: Kushida
Kaz vs. Jay Lethal
This match took a little while to get going but once it did it was very good.
Winner: Jay Lethal
Silas Young came out to watch the next match so he could scout Minoru Suzuki for their match the following night in Pittsburgh. He joins Ian Riccaboni and Colt Cabana at the commentary table.
War Machine & Mark Briscoe vs. Suzuki-Gun (Minoru Suzuki, Davey Bo Smith Jr. and Vance Archer)
This wasn't a good wrestling match...
...but it was an awesome brawl. I don't know the backstory between the teams but there seemed to be a lot of hatred between them and they unleashed it. The first five minutes was just insane brawling outside the ring on all sides and since we were pretty close (front row) a lot of it unfolded right in front of us. Once it got in the ring it was still really good, stiff fun. It was far from the greatest match I've ever seen but it may have been the most fun I’ve had watching a match live, as I've never had something that crazy unfold in front of me. My only regret is only having one set of eyes because there were three groups of guys fighting all over the place and I couldn’t take it all in fast enough.
Winners: Suzuki-Gun
[Intermission]
Bully Ray came out to cut a promo. He talked about memories of wrestling in Buffalo with ECW then lamented about the fact that his career may be over due to the table shot from Jay Briscoe a few weeks ago at Death Before Dishonor.
Jenny Rose vs. Mandy Leon
This was okay. There was some sloppy stuff but there were a couple of cool spots too. It was probably the more exciting of the two womens matches.
Winner: Mandy Leon
Christopher Daniels vs. Hiromu Takahashi w/Darryl
I didn’t like this match because I saw Hiromu Takahashi last year at a show near Buffalo when he was wrestling as Kamaitachi and no one gave a rats ass about him. I think he may have even wrestled in the dark match that night. But he was REALLY good. A year later he has a dumb stuffed cat and the crowd is going nuts for him? This was a good match with Christopher Daniels playing a bit of a comedy heel.
Winner: Hiromu Takahashi
CHAOS (Yoshi-Hashi and Toru Yano) vs. the Bullet Club (Cody and Marty Scurll)
I’ve seen on Toru Yano match in my life. I think it was last year at All-Star Extravaganza. That wasn’t a very good match. But I don’t hate him like others do. And I’ve seen so little of him. So I found him very funny in this match. But the problem with that is that Cody and Marty Scrull are better than comedy matches. I enjoyed Yanos antics but I could see how if he’s always like this how it can get old. Especially if he’s always wrestling legit guys overseas.
Winners: the Bullet Club
Punishment Martinez vs. Will Ospreay
As with all of Punishment Martinez’s matches he came out to crickets and mocking jabs from the crowd. And as with all of Punishment Martinez’s matches by the end the crowd was loving him. He needs to just be in brawls because he can unleash some impressive offense. And fighting a guy like Will Ospreay who can get thrown around and take a hit really well helped him. At first I figured this would be a five-minute job that made Punishment look really bad in losing but it was an entertaining match. And even more surprising: Punishment won!
Winner: Punishment Martinez
For the Ring of Honor World Six Man Tag Team Championships
the Kingdom vs. the Elite (champions)
Even though Kenny Omega isn’t a part of the usual six-man championship team of the Bullet Club (the Young Bucks and Hangman Page) they evoked the “Freebird Rule” tonight and put the titles on the line. Not like it mattered. The Kingdom didn’t stand a chance. Unlike a lot of Young Bucks and Elite matches I’ve seen they did get an ounce of offense in during this match. I’d say the scales were tipped eighty percent to twenty percent in favour of the Elite, which is the closest balanced I’ve ever seen on of their matches. It was a decent match with some fun spots but I honestly think I was so exhausted by this point that I was more “out of it” than most of the crowd. The Elite were still insanely over.
Winners: the Elite
The rest of the Bullet Club in attendance came out and Kenny Omega cut a promo thanking the fans. Matt Jackson took the mic and discussed the recent drama with the WWE that’s been happening lately.

This was a really fun show to be at live. None of the matches were five star classics but most of them were really fun to watch. A lot of them were comedy matches though. The first six-man match was awesome though so that made it worth the price of admission.
The Elite were really over. But I think they were a little more over when I saw them in Toronto this past May. Maybe it was because I exhausted myself (I try my best to get into it for everyone) but that crowd in Toronto was nuts for the Elite. But the problem with THAT show was it was Kenny Omega being there…any everyone else. At this show everyone got really great responses from the crowd (except Punishment Martinez). Bully Ray got a massive pop and looked to be near tears. In fact, his pop came close to the Elites, which is no easy task.
During the first six man matches mayhem Hanson of War Machine came flying over the guardrail and landed in the lap of the guy beside my wife. And I caught Jay Lethals t-shirt. I don’t know why. I saw it flying and I reached out and grabbed it.
Punishment Martinez
The Young Bucks
There was a massive fan above the ring. They turned it on during the second half of the show and it made things wickedly comfortable temperature-wise. But it also made for an INCREDIBLE visual with all the streamers blowing with it. (I'm not sure why the footage looks like crap but you get it)
