HOLY CRAP WHAT A GODDAMN SHOW!!! I wish I had gone an extra day or two between this and Man on the Silver Mountain. For those of you that read my review of MOTSM, you saw that it was a decent show, but I wasn't completely blown away by it, this however, was just a great show from bottom to top. No real duds at all, maybe a couple slower spots, but an overall phenomenal show that I HIGHLY recommend.
Singles Match
Rey Horus vs. Sammy Guevara
- The opening contest featured two debuts. Rey Horus is better known on Lucha Underground as El Dragon Azetca Jr, while Sammy is a newer name on the indy scene, but definitely knows how to work the crowd into hating him. These two put on a really good, although rather sloppy at times, match, and you could tell that they were struggling from time to time due to the incredible heat in the building that they were not used to, having it be their first PWG match. Either way, really solid opener, and I can't wait to see more of these guys. I have been a huge fan of Rey Horus since I first saw him, and Guevara will be wrestling here on my birthday, so hopefully I can make it to that!
TLDR Review: Fun opener, sloppy at times, but good
Tag Team Match
The Unbreakable F'N Machines (Brian Cage & Michael Elgin) vs. The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson)
- I'm sorry Sanitarium, but this match was incredible. Great amount of comedy, spots, and pure entertainment. Nick Jackson kept trying to tell Elgin to suck it, but Elgin wasn't having it and would attack him every time he tried, until Nick was able to do it once and it caused Elgin to fly out of the ring. The Machines really showed their strength here, catching the Bucks of Youth on numerous dives to the outside of the ring, and showing their dominance. The match surprisingly ended with The Machines getting the pinfall over the Bucks!
Quick side note: The Young Bucks were, no surprise, INSANELY OVER with the crowd here and got a huge pop. The ring announcer announced them both as weighing in at 206 pounds each, which then caused one of the Bucks to grab the mic and say "That is ONE pound over 205" (obvious jab at WWE).
TLDR Review: INCREDIBLY FUN MATCH
Three Way Match
Keith Lee vs. Lio Rush vs. Trent
- So Keith Lee is finally starting to warm up to me. He did his same thing with Lio Rush where he bullied him around and asserted his dominance showing who the big guy was, but Trent was there to help Lio out, and the two often time were seen working together to take out the big man Keith Lee. Lee still did his usually slow motion taunts that I am not too much of a fan of, but he didn't do as many as usual. The match ended with an insane slam on Rush from Lee, causing him to once again get the win. There were a couple spots where the ref, Justin Borden (who the crowd doesn't like) ALMOST hit his hand for a three count, but was broken up at the same time, and the crowd let him know that they thought it was three and that he messed up.
Also, Keith is by far one of the most over guys on PWG at the moment, so it's cool to see them acknowledge that and give him some W's.
TLDR Review: Fun match with Lee showing who's boss
Four Way Match
Dave Crist vs. Dezmond Xavier vs. Jake Crist vs. Sami Callihan
- This match was originally supposed to be a 6-man tag between Callihan and the Crist's vs Xavier, Shane Strickland and Jason Cade, but Strickland and Cade's flights got cancelled so they couldn't make it, so it turned into an INSANE spotfest of a 4-way. Callihan and the Crist's are collectively known as OI4K usually, but had no problem at all kicking the shit out of each other. There was a nutso dive spot where everyone hit dives outside the ring... and then referee Rick Knox even hit a ton of dives, and even did a flip off the top rope to the outside!!!! This was just an insane match with a ton of crazy spots that I can only imagine how much fun it was to watch in person. Dezmond Xavier got the win.
TLDR Review: Spotfest City *clap clap, clap clap clap*
Singles Match
Ricochet vs. Trevor Lee
- If there was any match on the card that just felt like a "filler" match, it was this, but it was still a kick ass match. I was shocked when commentator Excalibur announced that this was the first one on one meeting between the two, I swear I've seen them fight one on one in PWG before, but guess not! Just a fun match with Ricochet doing what he does, and Trevor Lee doing the same. Dives, flips, spots, good match to get everyone pumped up for the main event.
TLDR Review: Solid match, filler at times, but good
PWG World Title Match
Zack Sabre Jr. (c) vs. Chuck Taylor
- These are two names that wouldn't expect would put on an incredible match, but this was by far some of the best storytelling in a PWG match since the days of Steen and Generico. Chuck Taylor obviously worked the underdog role and had everyone supporting him nonstop while ZSJ was the pompous heel champion that knew he was too good and could beat Chucky T easily... or could he? Chuck found his way to the rope every time Sabre would put him in a hold, so Sabre put one of the ring crew guys in a choke hold and told him to take off the bottom rope.... thus there was no bottom rope, but that didn't prevent Chuck from getting a rope break on the middle rope! Sabre then tried to do anything he could to get himself DQ'd, but the ref wouldn't have any of it and let the match continue. The match culminated with a pile of thumbtacks, and Chuck Taylor hitting his Awful Waffle piledriver on Sabre to get the 1.......2............. THREE!!!! Chuck Taylor wins his first ever PWG championship!!!
The crowd completely blew up and I even spotted a few people crying out of happiness due to how long Chucky T has worked his ass off, especially in PWG, and finally gets the belt!
TLDR Review: Incredible match with phenomenal storytelling
This show was great, everything was worth watching for one reason or another, and nothing felt like total filler.
