Ring of Honor "Champions vs. All-Stars"
January 14th, 2011
From the Richmond Raceway Complex in Richmond, Virginia
Commentators: Kevin Kelly and Dave Prazak
Backstage, a sombre Christopher Daniels promises that 2011 will be a great year. But tonight the Ring of Honor All-Stars (the Briscoes, El Generico and Davey Richards) face the Ring of Honor Champions (World Heavyweight Champion Roderick Strong, World Television Champion Christopher Daniels and World Tag Team Champions the Kings of Wrestling). He doesn't like anyone on his team but he's going to go out and show everyone what a true competitor he is and what it means for him to be in Ring of Honor.
There's also a cash prize at stake in the main event.
World Heavyweight Champion Roderick Strong comes out to the ring to gloat about his recent victory at Final Battle over Davey Richards and promises to prove that all the champions will reign supreme tonight. Christopher Daniels comes out and calls Strong a big mouth punk but they have to represent the most prestigious wrestling championships in the world tonight. They get close to fighting but Daniels blows it off. Roderick still wants a match with Daniels right now.
Roderick Strong vs. Christopher Daniels
This match was going on fine until the Kings of Wrestling came out to break them up and cost Roderick the match. They weren't even killing each other and they went for a while before the Kings came out.
Winner: Christopher Daniels
The Bravado Brothers vs. Grizzly Redwood & Andy "Right-Leg" Ridge
This match was pretty mediocre. Grizzly Redwood was the size of Crash Holly and I thought this might be one of those matches where a guy looks like a doink but tears it up. He didn't. The Bravados are also much better than this.
Winners: Grizzly Redwood & Andy "Right Leg" Ridge
Backstage, Mike Bennett says that Brutal Bob is back in Boston tonight training “greenies”. He promises to make a point out of Adam Cole tonight and then he's going after the Ring of Honor World Television Championship
Mike Bennett vs. Adam Cole
Adam Cole was such a dork back in 2011. But this wasn't a bad match at all. In light of the rough go Bennett's having right now in 2017 (and since I'm trying to embrace positive karma more now) I will say this was the best match of his I've ever seen.
Winner: Mike Bennett
The Kings of Wrestling, Shane Hagadorn and Sara Del Ray come out and demand that in light of two of their teammates fighting each other earlier tonight that El Generico and Davey Richards wrestle one another right now to level the playing field. Richards and Generico come out and tell them it's not happening. So the Kings of Wrestling decided to even things out another way and attack them. The Briscoes come out and make the save.
Rhett Titus vs. Homicide
Okay, so at the beginning of this match Rhett Titus says "have some Rhett Titus", sticks his hands down his pants, rubs his penis, does to shake Homicides hand and pie-faces him when he refuses. He might have said, "have some hepatitis" but I don't think that's an STD? This match wasn't bad at all but it got especially vicious towards the end. Rhett Titus deserves some credit for what he's put his body through.
Winner: Homicide
Backstage, a bloody and obviously “out of it” Rhett Titus says he wants another match with Homicide.
Ad for the Ring of Honor training academy. The video moved pretty fast and I wonder if any future stars were featured in it?
Steve Corino comes out and admits he's been wrong for the entire seventeen years of his wrestling career but 2010 was the time he was the worst. He blames himself for Kevin Steen leaving and understands why no one backstage respects him. But he's going to turn a page in 2011 and he's going to rectify everything he's done wrong. He calls another wrestler he sees going down the same path he's gone down out (Caleb Konley). He tells Caleb to learn from *his* mistakes.
Steve Corino vs. Caleb Konley
This was an okay match. It was just hard to watch a "road to redemption" Steve Corino match from seven years ago knowing he became a total prick again a year or two later and tried to bring Ring of Honor down.
Winner: Steve Corino
Backstage, Caprice Coleman is excited to be back in Ring of Honor and he's ready for Colt Cabana tonight.
Caprice Coleman vs. Colt Cabana
This was a comedy match that was probably way more fun life, but I still enjoyed it. There was some really good wrestling too. It was one of Caprice's first matches in Ring of Honor.
Winner: Colt Cabana
Kenny King vs. Kyle O'Reilly
This wasn't a bad match either. I just have a hard time caring about Kenny King and paying attention to his matches. But Kyle O'Reilly always does well.
Winner: Kenny King
Backstage, Steve Corino compliments Kyle O'Reilly on his match.
Ring of Honor All-Stars vs. Ring of Honor Champions
The Briscoes, El Generico & Davey Richards vs. the Kings of Wrestling, Christopher Daniels & Roderick Strong w/Shane Hagadorn
For some reason my attention waned during this match and I don't know why because I was enjoying this show a lot. It was a good match in a show full of good matches.
Winners: All-Stars
Afterwards Davey Richards cuts a nice little promo thanking the crowd that normally would've been cut out.
Backstage, The Bravado Brothers are arguing over their loss.
___________________________________________________________
I didn’t want to watch this show but circumstances (which I’ll get into in a moment) led to me having to. But I was really glad that I did. There was nothing seven stars worthy on this show but there were a few really good matches that I was glad I got to see. It was a good show to watch too as a time capsule in Ring of Honors history. A lot of the guys are still around or have just recently left and it was cool to see them in their infancy (Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly, Caprice Colman, Rhett Titus and even Mike Bennett). I enjoyed watching it too because I like watching Ring of Honor when it’s just “Ring of Honor”. A lot of their shows as of late in the current (2017) have been too dependent on NJPW stars. I like watching just Ring of Honor myself.
So then why did I watch it? Well, I had a Ringside Members account in August (to buy tickets to a live Ring of Honor show early) and I took advantage of their archives. I was working my way chronologically through what little they did have and was enjoying myself. So I signed up for Ringside Membership again last weekend (to watch the stream of one of the Global Wars shows, which ended up not working) and I figures I'd continue where I left off. I was prepared to watch something from 2003 tonight but lo-and-behold they've removed all pre-2011 videos from their online archives. So this was the oldest show available and that's where I'll... restart.
Funniest line of the night, Kevin Kelly on El Generico: "the rivalry with Steen is once and for all settled business".
The amount of the cash prize in the main event was never specified. But Ring of Honor had recently ended their partnership with HDNet at this time and were without a TV deal so I'd imagine it was non-existant.
