What kind of new direction is it supposed to go in?
I wouldn't worry much about the ratings. There are many different ways that people watch shows today. Better ratings does help the shows budget since when they're higher they can charge more for ads. That can help them do more things and pay for the actors.
But on cable TV, if the show is quality and it can get at least a million people to watch the shows when they first air, more often than not they'll keep it around unless viewership seriously tanks.
I think Saul will be just fine.
