TL;DR Version: Horrible. Horrible show.
I should have known going into this that the fact that no matches were listed on the case it would be... interesting. I got this DVD as part of my DON WEST BAH GAWD EVERYTHING MUST GO brown bag sale. The Samoa Joe DVD I got was phenomenal, the tag team DVD was.... alright, the top 50 moments had its (ahem) moments, and the Hardcore Justice DVD I got had its moments... but this... I just don't even.
Here's the deal with this show, there were four "teams", one captained by EC3, one by Eric Young, Kurt Angle, and the last by Bobby ROOOOOO-, when a member of their team won they'd get a point, and the two teams with the most points at the end would fight in a big team vs team elimination tag match. There were other rules, but the commentators didn't really know how to explain them, so I won't try either.
That brings me to my biggest complaint... the commentators. BUT FIRST...
The DVD started off with 20 minutes of each guy picking a team member and Taz constantly saying how fast its going and how he was expecting it to take a lot longer. There were a lot of awkward jokes dropped, and none of the guys looked like they were taking it seriously at all (it really felt like a no-name indy show with a bunch of big names dressed as no name wrestlers).
So we get to the first match, Eddie Edward vs James Storm. I really didn't pay attention to this because neither were the COMMENTATORS. For quite a while Mike Tenney was trying to explain the rules to Taz while Taz got confused and complained about how it was stupid that the teams didn't have matching colors to make things easier to tell apart. Eddie Edwards won.
Next match was... ugh... The Bromans vs Mr. Anderson and Sanada. During the Broman's entrance there was a white chick dancing in the front row like a drunk white chick. HEY GUYS, REMEMBER WHEN SANADA WAS A JOKE CHARACTER IN TNA!!! This was actually an entertaining comedy match. At one point Mr. Kenedy got on DJ Z's turntable thing and tried to start a dance party... causing Sanada to dance in the ring..... BROMANS WON.
Gail Kim vs Madison Rayne was next.... ummm... yeah.... it was bad and Gail Kim won. Once again, Taz and Mike paid zero attention to the action and were just talking about how old Earl Hebner is.
Eric Young vs Bobby Roode was next... umm..... Stuff happened? I think this was the match were Taz and Mike were talking about Raspberries.
EC3 vs Davey Richards was next... I think I was busy talking to Adam and DCMetal during this and didn't see a single spot... except for when Richards put EC3 in an Ankle Lock... umm... yeah? I love Richards, but I was really checked out by this point thanks to the commentators. This may have been the match that they were talking about Raspberries.
Gunner and Bully Ray vs Samuel Shaw and Kenny King was next... I literally didn't see a thing in this match as my dad and I were looking up his old high school friends online.
The final match was the elimination tag match for the World Cup title thing. Eric Young's team won. The end.
So yeah... this was not a good show. I'm sure maybe it had it's moments if I actually paid more attention, or just muted my TV, but it was so hard to get passed Mike Tenney and Taz. They killed this show and made it practically unbearable. Maybe that is why TNA was so bad? It's highly possible. I'd say a good 75% of the time they weren't even calling the match and talking about when they got into wrestling... or should I say, Mike talking about wrestling and Taz making fun of him for being old. Yeah, did I mention they were talking about Raspberries during a match? I felt bad for this show. I may go back and watch it again, but have it on mute with some music playing in the background. It wasn't BAD, but this really shows how important good commentary is, and how it can either make or BREAK a show. Hell... I am more interested in watching NJPW PPV's with the Japanese Commentary than this.
PS: Wasn't Samuel Shaw that ex marine guy that had a missing leg?
