This was my second SWA show to goto. Had met the promoter thru a mutual friend and got told "You are welcome to come film any show I have."
So at around 1pm on the 11th of this month Koby arrived with the Bodyslam Media Productions van. Was only 3 of us going this trip.
1.Koby KOBY Rutland-Head of Bodyslam Media Productions and in less that 3 years had worked for 30+ feds across 8 states. And he isn't even 21 yet.
2.Myself-While I do commentary work for Bodyslam Media,I also film matches for my channel,DIY Mississippi Filmworks. Plus the promoter loves it when I wear my Ultimo Guerrero mask and pretend to be my cousin from Mexico.
3.Big Country Tommy Moore-Tommy is mid 50s and does commentary. When all three of us are there he will do face commentary and I do heel. While Koby does play by play.
Now most shows we are lucky to get 1 chair. And there is never an electrical outlet near us. And we always have at least 2 laptops and a camera on our table so we need electricity. So I packed a 20 foot extension cord this time, along with an old surge protector.
We get there and find the promoter,Steve Starr,He shows us there is a built in bench on the floor in front of the bleachers. And it had 12 working electrical outlets. So time to set up the table. Toss on it all the equipment we need. Then time for me to put up gimmicks for sale. Started off with about 50 DVDs,30 or so mini WWE figures. Plus a few loose older wrestling figures. By the end of intermission I had 4 or so dvds left and that was it. So YAY me made some decent cash at this show.
There is a play list of the entire show.
Match 01-Reggie Krimsynn Matthews vs Barry "Free State of Jones" Wolf-Great match to start the show with. Barry was number 500 in the 2009 or 2010 PWI 500. So was Mr 500 for years, but he ended up with a part in the recent film Free State of Jones. Was a bit odd cause I have known Reggie since 2012 and never seen him work heel. Barry I met back in October 2010 and never seen him work anything but face.
Match 02-Aztec Warrior Alex Cruz vs Lukas Frost-Cruz helps run Elev8 Pro,a fastly growing indy in south LA. Lukas is a vet, been around 10+ years. Around here the fans know if Lukas is on the show you will get a damn good match no matter who he is facing. This was the match of the night for me.
Match 03-The Prince of Pain Joe Kane vs Nate The Boss Moss-Nate has maybe 3 years in wrestling and is pretty good. One of those guys that improves with each match. Joe has been wrestling since 98 and is great. He should have hit it big a decade ago. But sadly is pretty much unknown outside the MS/LA/TX area.
Then they had intermission. The promoter was smart he had 50 extra posters printed up. Got 3 or 4 of the faces to sign them. Then was selling them at the entrance for $2. I had gotten one,so when Joe Kane came out I went over to get him to sign it. Plus to just chat with Joe for a bit. While talking to Joe I see that Monty Warbucks' wife has a table set up. Last SWA show I got like 8 late era WCW PPV vhs off her for cheap. So went over. All she had that I wanted was a Rev Pro,the Cali fed that morphed into PWG not the UK one,for cheap. It was disc only but she cut me a deal.
I get back to our table and there is a line of kids wanting their picture with me,cause of the mask. So even though I don't like kids, little booger crusted people that don't pay rent,I did pics with every kid or adult that wanted one. Had a few parents offer me money for the pics, but I refused it.
Match 04-Sandersville Street Fight Marvelous Monty Warbucks vs Son of JYD Mike Carter.
Ok yeah I know JYD only had a daughter. Carter for years was claiming to be JYD's legit son, then the fans started mentioning how JYD only had a daughter. So now Carter is the son of JYD and a ring rat. Monty is the guy who I got the WCW VHS off of at the last SWA show. Both guys went all out. Plus were both shocked when they learned I am older than both of them.
Match 05-Calvin Rose/Mountain Man and The Dream Machine vs The Assassin+Black Ranger 1 and 2
The only bad match on the show. But then out of the six guys in the ring only Rose is worth watching. Mountain Man use to be decent 10 years ago,but age has caught up with him.We never figured out who Dream Machine or Black Ranger 2 were. This isn't the famous Assassin, supposedly this guy has/had permission from the original to use the gimmick.
Ended up making more than enough to toss Koby some money to cover his gas,it was a 2 1/2 hour drive from my town to Sandersville. Also we all hit the Waffle House in my town once we got back at like 1am.
Shit forgot to mention stabby. Now this is the deep south,so at plenty of shows I have seen people that legit believe it is real and try to rush the ring when a heel cheats. The combo of the crowd noise,my hearing damage and wearing a mask the entire show I didn't notice, until Tommy pointed him out, that a guy in the back row near us was getting mad each time I would cheer on a heel. So during intermission I went over."Hey man, sorry between the noise and this mask while I saw you were talking to me most of the show I couldn't hear ya. So what is up sir?" He ,and I think he might be from a local home for special needs adults, explained how he wasn't happy I was cheering the bad guys and said "Why don't ya take off that mask and fight me in the ring?" I explained to him that I am not a wrestler so will not get in the ring."Then I guess i will just have to catch ya in the parking lot." So the joke was he was gonna stab me in the parking lot. Which made us all nickname him Stabby. Kind like how for 3 years every show in my town front row was a guy covered in prison tats, who got nicknamed prison tats.
